Violent crime in the United States is experiencing a significant decline under President Donald J. Trump’s leadership, reaching unprecedented levels in modern history. A recent mid-year report indicates that homicides are projected to fall to their lowest point in over a century, continuing the remarkable progress made last year and fulfilling one of President Trump’s key commitments to reinstating law and order.

Every day, Americans witness the impact: safer communities, fewer victims, and an end to the crime wave that plagued the previous decade. This outcome is a direct consequence of the Trump Administration’s persistent efforts to uphold the rule of law, support law enforcement, and allocate resources to communities previously neglected by Democrats.

Comparing the first half of 2026 to the same period in the previous year:

  • Homicides have decreased by 18%, aiming for the lowest level in at least 126 years.
  • Carjackings have declined by 47%.
  • Motor vehicle thefts have dropped by 20%.
  • Robberies have fallen by 17%.
  • Residential burglaries have decreased by 13%.

Compared to the peak crime levels of the past nine years:

  • Homicides have decreased by 51%.
  • Carjackings have been reduced by 73%.
  • Residential burglaries have declined by 56%.
  • Motor vehicle thefts have dropped by 51%.

The most significant drops in homicide rates occurred in cities where the Trump Administration intervened after a lack of action from Democrat leaders:

  • In Memphis, murders have declined by more than 43% this year, following the city’s record of fewer than 200 murders last year for the first time since 2019.
  • In Washington, D.C., murders have decreased by more than 42% this year, following a significant 60% drop in murders last year.
  • In New Orleans, murders have fallen by more than 32% this year, following a decline in the city’s homicide rate to its lowest level in nearly 50 years.
  • In Los Angeles, murders have decreased by more than 18% this year, after a nearly 20% drop in the previous year.

The national impact is evident:

  • Associated Press: The U.S. is projected to experience a historically low number of homicides in 2026, according to a report.
  • NewsNation: Research indicates homicide levels are trending towards their lowest in over a century.
  • NPR: The U.S. murder rate is approaching a record low.
  • Scripps News: Homicide rates in the U.S. are nearing a historic low.
  • Stateline: Crime continues its historic decline as homicide rates approach century lows.
  • AL.com: Birmingham could conclude 2026 with the lowest murder tally in 75 years, just two years after its deadliest year.
  • Alabama Political Reporter: Birmingham reports a 70% drop in homicides, with overall crime falling by 12%.
  • Axios New Orleans: New Orleans is on track for its lowest murder count in decades.
  • CalMatters: California’s homicide rate falls to a historic low as police make more arrests in killings.
  • CBS Philadelphia: Data shows Philadelphia experiencing a 56% decrease in homicides, with some police districts reporting none.
  • KARE (Minneapolis, MN): A new report indicates crime is trending down in Minneapolis.
  • QCity Metro: Charlotte experiences a 16% drop in crime as CMPD reports fewer offenses.
  • Tennessee Bar Association: Report highlights Memphis’ continued decline in crime.
  • The Texas Tribune: Texas crime rate continues to drop, with McAllen seeing its lowest levels in decades.
  • WBAL (Baltimore, MD): Baltimore stands out among U.S. cities for a decline in homicides, according to a Council on Criminal Justice report.
  • WJLA (Washington, D.C.): Homicides in D.C. could reach the lowest levels since 1990, as revealed by a new crime report.
  • WRTV (Indianapolis, IN): Indianapolis reports a significant drop in violent crime.
  • WTOP News (Washington, D.C.): Homicide rates in D.C. are likely dropping to historic lows not seen since 1900, according to a report.
  • Wisconsin Public Radio: Homicides in Milwaukee have decreased by 30% during the first half of 2026.

President Trump pledged to make America safe once more, and the data demonstrates that he is achieving this goal more rapidly and decisively than any prior administration.
