When you look at a side-by-side comparison (as shown in the image above), the differences between the two devices are immediately apparent. But is it really just a matter of choosing between a shorter, wider device and a taller, slimmer one?

Not at all. While the design may influence your preference, the devices differ in several important aspects.

Interested in our take on them? Check out our in-depth reviews of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

The design

Let’s address the obvious first. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and 8 Ultra have distinct appearances, each tailored for specific needs.

The Fold has long been marketed as a productivity tool, and with the introduction of the ‘Ultra’ version, Samsung is emphasizing this even more. It maintains the same dimensions and 215g weight as the Z Fold 7, featuring an 8-inch internal display that matches the area of two 6.5-inch cover screens placed side by side.

The Ultra is designed for split-screen multitasking

This makes it a far better choice for multitasking, which is crucial for many productivity tasks that rely on screens. The new ‘Now Nudge’ feature leverages this capability, allowing users to access a functional split-screen view with a single tap on the AI-generated prompt.
