On Wednesday evening, Stephen Miller, an advisor to Trump, strongly criticized Dr. Anthony Fauci during a segment on Fox News.
Earlier that day, Dr. Fauci, who has been a prominent figure in the U.S. COVID-19 response, appeared under subpoena before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Despite previously being very public during the pandemic, Fauci chose not to speak extensively this time.
In his opening statement, Dr. Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment before the committee, addressing his role in the COVID pandemic and accusations of misleading the public.
Fauci exercised his right to plead the Fifth Amendment 111 times, which led Senator Rand Paul to propose holding him in contempt of Congress.
Following this dramatic Senate hearing, Stephen Miller criticized Fauci. “Trump was the one who questioned the origins of COVID. President Trump is the one who questioned the need for requiring every single American to be tested repeatedly!” Miller stated.
Miller continued, “He questioned whether restrictions should apply to children and healthy adults for an illness mainly affecting the elderly.”
Miller added, “He fought to reopen the government. The Biden campaign in 2020 spent a significant amount of money criticizing President Trump for his efforts to keep America open.”
He concluded, “Every day, the health care establishment attacked President Trump for questioning the experts.”
Senator Rand Paul announced on Wednesday that the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee would vote on holding Dr. Fauci in contempt for his refusal to answer questions during the hearing.
