In New York, two parents who admitted to starving their infant to death will not face any jail time after pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter.

According to court documents, Londyn Gonzalez, a baby of two and a half months, was discovered lifeless in a Cheektowaga, New York, apartment on July 7, 2023, after a call for an unresponsive child. This information was reported by The Post Millennial.
The baby, born at a healthy weight on April 20 of that year, was not gaining weight adequately. A medical provider expressed concerns and advised the parents to increase her formula intake.
Londyn weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces at birth but was only 8 pounds, 4 ounces at the time of her death.
Her parents missed a critical follow-up appointment on May 8, just a month before her death, which was determined to be caused by malnutrition and dehydration. The parents, Luis Gonzalez Jr., 26, and Kitrina Udrea, 23, both from Buffalo, were charged with manslaughter. They pleaded guilty in May.
The Erie County district attorney’s office stated in a media release that the investigation found the parents recklessly caused their daughter’s death by acting together.
District Attorney Mike Keane commented, “This crime was not a brief lapse in judgment or a single poor decision, but the intentional withholding of nutrition for several weeks from their own baby. The cries of their hungry newborn and the advice of medical professionals fell on deaf ears.”
During sentencing, Judge James F. Bargnesi described their actions as “absolutely outrageous” and “absolutely inexcusable,” as reported by Just the News.
The charge, according to the DA’s office, was the “highest sustainable charge” and the only count in the indictment, which could have resulted in up to 15 years of imprisonment for each parent.
Ultimately, the sentence resulted in five years of probation following a mere 45 days in jail.
This decision has sparked criticism over the judge’s political affiliation.

In a controversial comparison, the situation has been likened to a “fourth-trimester abortion,” referencing comments by Ralph Northam. Such comparisons highlight concerns about how the value of life is perceived.
District Attorney Keane, also a Democrat, was elected by a significant margin in 2024, with his term extending until January 1, 2029. He regarded the charge as the most severe possible but failed to secure additional jail time despite the guilty plea. This decision raises questions about his priorities.
