Miranda Priestly’s closet is opening its doors for an auction starting September 1. The sequel, “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” hit theaters in April 2026, earning an impressive $691 million globally and becoming a major cultural phenomenon in the realms of fashion, film, and entertainment. The film reunited Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling, along with new cast members Simone Ashley and Lady Gaga. Now, the outfits they donned on screen are set to be auctioned for causes that resonate with the film’s narrative.

Christie’s, the renowned auction house, will conduct the online auction from September 1 to September 15 on christies.com. All proceeds will support the Committee to Protect Journalists and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The auction, initiated by Streep, mirrors a similar initiative she led after the original 2006 film, which benefited organizations like Dress for Success, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and Equality Now. This time, the focus is on press freedom and the future of fashion, reflecting the sequel’s theme about the fragile state of journalism.

The auction will feature a range of clothing, jewelry, accessories, and shoes, with an estimated total value surpassing $1 million. Certain items stand out for their unique significance.

Among the highly anticipated items is the Dries Van Noten tassel jacket worn by Streep’s character, Miranda Priestly, during a Runway staff meeting. This garment encapsulates the essence of the film in one piece. Streep’s choice of Dries Van Noten for a sequel released two decades after the original adds to its statement value, making ownership a distinct privilege.

Anne Hathaway’s Gabriela Hearst Niki dress, worn in a Hamptons scene by Andy Sachs, will be auctioned with the stain acquired in that scene still intact. While some might see it as a flaw, fans of the film view it as a mark of authenticity.

Emily Blunt’s Elsa Peretti Bone Cuff, appraised at $107,000, is among the highest-valued items available. The black feathered hooded dress by Terrence Zhou, worn by Lady Gaga in the Runaway music video, is expected to draw considerable interest beyond the usual fashion audience. Lady Gaga’s role in the sequel was a talking point from the start, and the dress featured in her character’s music video is already regarded as a collector’s item.

Other items include Dolce and Gabbana apparel, a Fendi bag, a Schiaparelli dress, Valentino shoes, and the iconic cerulean sweater worn by Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs, nodding to a famous scene from the original film, now revisited two decades later.

Christie’s New York will host a free public exhibition showcasing auction highlights at 20 Rockefeller Plaza from September 8 to 13, coinciding with the Handbags Online: The September Edit exhibition. No ticket is required, allowing visitors in New York to view the items before the auction concludes on September 15.

The auction will also feature an exclusive, invitation-only event. On September 10, during New York Fashion Week, Christie’s will hold a cocktail party and live charity auction. Additional fashion pieces and luxury experiences inspired by the film will be auctioned, with proceeds benefiting the CPJ and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund via the CFDA Foundation. Rachel Koffsky Parker, Christie’s International Head of Handbags, will act as auctioneer at the live event.

Streep’s statement for the auction reflects her unique style: “Please join us as we celebrate truth and beauty, beauty and truth,” she remarked. “The Devil Wears Prada spectacular global auction of shoes, bags, gowns, and glamorous experiences, live via Christie’s, to benefit the Committee to Protect Journalists, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Get your gorgeous on in time for fall and bid up big.” The cerulean sweater is part of the collection, among many other items. Bidding opens September 1 at christies.com.
