Sources reported that a woman and a child tragically lost their lives when a boat overturned near Liberty Island in New York Harbor on Saturday night.
The two victims were among more than a dozen people who were rescued from the water after the vessel capsized around 10:25 p.m.
The child who died was only 5 months old, according to sources.
The cause of the accident and the size of the boat remain unknown, but the deceased were transported to NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn in critical condition.
The NYPD and Coast Guard responded to the emergency, but police stated that all the individuals had already been rescued from the water upon their arrival.
Footage of the event shows emergency vehicles with blue and red lights scouring the harbor’s waters in the dark.
Helicopters were also visible overhead.
