A recent mid-year crime report provides further evidence that President Donald J. Trump’s law-and-order policies are significantly reducing violent crime in the United States.
The Major Cities Chiefs Association reports a 17.2% decrease in homicides in the country’s largest cities compared to the first half of the previous year. This decrease is accompanied by significant reductions in robberies, rapes, aggravated assaults, and overall violent crime, resulting in nearly 14,200 fewer violent crimes reported over a six-month period.
The impact is particularly notable in Democrat-led cities where the Trump Administration has intensified federal support and deployed the National Guard following years of lenient crime policies. Washington, D.C. has seen a 43.9% drop in homicides, Memphis has experienced a 43.7% decline, and New Orleans has reported nearly a 25% reduction.
This progress builds on last year’s significant achievements, where murders and violent crimes fell to levels not observed in over a century. The latest data continues to confirm this trend. The Council on Criminal Justice indicates that the national murder rate is on track to reach its lowest point in at least 126 years, and crime data analyst Jeff Asher notes that the 2026 murder rate is projected to be “by far the lowest ever recorded.”
