Stripe has reached an agreement to acquire OpenRouter, as reported by Bloomberg.
OpenRouter assists clients in selecting various AI models to carry out specific tasks based on their needs and budget. In May, OpenRouter announced securing $113 million in Series B funding, with the company’s valuation reported at $1.3 billion. Its investors include Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, Menlo Ventures, and Alphabet’s Capital G.
At that time, OpenRouter CEO Alex Atallah likened the company to Stripe for AI, highlighting its role in providing a unified access point for different systems and avoiding vendor lock-in. The startup also claimed to have 8 million users worldwide and access to over 400 models.
The Wall Street Journal reported last month that Stripe and OpenRouter were negotiating an acquisition. Bloomberg now states that these discussions have culminated in a deal exceeding $7 billion.
A Stripe representative informed JS that the company does not respond to rumors or speculation.
