A man from Joliet, previously convicted of a 2018 homicide, is now facing federal charges. The ATF reports that Martell “Haitian” Ollie allegedly sold a firearm and around 1,000 fentanyl pills to undercover officers during separate transactions. He was apprehended in Joliet on Wednesday after completing the drug sale, as stated in a federal criminal complaint.
This arrest adds to Ollie’s legal troubles. In 2020, he admitted guilt to a reduced charge of second-degree murder for the 2018 shooting death of Donald Woods Jr. in Joliet. At that time, Ollie claimed self-defense, asserting that Woods had a gun, which made him fear for his life. While prosecutors recognized Woods was armed, they argued he did not display the weapon. Ollie received a 13-year sentence, served concurrently with four other drug-related sentences, with the term halved under state law.
The recent federal charges stem from an operation that started in early April. Ollie reportedly arranged to sell drugs and a .357 revolver to an undercover Bolingbrook police officer working with the ATF. The deal was planned for a Mexican restaurant parking lot in Joliet. Ollie expressed nervousness, admitting it was his first time selling a gun to this agent, according to the complaint.
Ollie arrived in a vehicle registered to “one of” his girlfriends, with the revolver concealed between the front seats. This scene was captured by a camera carried by the undercover officer, as per court records. After receiving $750, Ollie allegedly assured the officer, “That b**** ready to go and I gotcha bullets too.”
On Wednesday, another undercover agent made a recorded call with Ollie, who offered to sell 1,000 fentanyl pills for $4,000, as per the complaint. They met later that day in Joliet, where Ollie was arrested after handing over a bag containing approximately 1,000 blue pills. A field test on some pills allegedly confirmed the presence of fentanyl.
Ollie is now charged federally with possession of a firearm by a felon and distribution of fentanyl.
In April 2025, The Patch reported that Ollie faced charges in Will County for allegedly pointing a handgun at two women and threatening to kill them in Crest Hill. However, the status of this case could not be verified as the Will County Circuit Court Clerk’s public access website was experiencing errors.
