A Chicago Police Department surveillance camera operator captured four suspects robbing individuals in Grant Park early Tuesday morning, leading to their arrest. The suspects were apprehended by officers in Chinatown as they attempted to escape via the Red Line.

Around 3 a.m., patrol officers disrupted an attempted car theft near Sedgwick and Evergreen in Old Town. The thieves fled, abandoning the other car with its doors ajar.

The CPD continued to electronically track the fleeing vehicle as it traveled south on Lake Shore Drive. At 3:15 a.m., the suspects reached Monroe Street and targeted a couple walking there. According to a police spokesperson, the victims, a 21-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, were approached by four men in the 300 block of East Monroe Street. The suspects brandished weapons and stole property from them, as reported by police.

The area was under surveillance by a nearby camera, and an officer guided patrol units to the scene. The patrol units began pursuing the car, but the chase was discontinued when the vehicle entered the expressway, according to police radio communications. Police employed other methods to track the vehicle and found the suspects after they abandoned a stolen gray Hyundai Sonata in a Chinatown parking lot. Officers then pursued all four suspects on foot.

Police reported that the suspects were arrested in the 100 block of West Cermak Road. At least one firearm was found on the stairs of the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line station.

Initially, the victims were hesitant to file complaints and refused to travel to Chinatown to identify the suspects. However, they eventually agreed to do so and confirmed that the correct individuals were arrested. Police stated that charges were pending as of Tuesday morning.
