Recent changes in British law now allow transgender police officers to conduct strip searches on women in custody.
As reported by The Daily Mail, the British Transport Police has implemented a new policy called “Transgender and Non-Binary Search Position,” which permits transgender officers who have transitioned and obtained a gender recognition certificate to conduct intimate searches on women.
The policy, approved in September by the assistant chief constable for network policing, states that transgender and non-binary individuals will be recognized based on their self-identified gender, regardless of legal documentation.
According to The Daily Mail:
The guidance from British Transport Police specifies that officers/staff will only search persons of the same sex as indicated on their birth certificate or gender recognition certificate. This includes more thorough searches involving the removal of clothing.
Dr. Naomi Wolf, a prominent advocate for women’s rights, expressed concerns about the potential implications of this new policy.
Dr. Naomi Wolf: Women are familiar with the dangers posed by a minority of men, with statistics showing that a small percentage of men are responsible for the majority of sexual assaults. There is a valid concern that individuals may exploit the transgender label to gain access to vulnerable women for malicious purposes, as evidenced by certain harmful fantasies in the realm of pornography.
Women know how abusive a minority of men can be. 5 per cent of men commit 90 per cent of rapes. What are the odds that some men will call themselves ‘trans’ in order to strip search frightened women under their complete control? There are whole porn categories devoted to that… https://t.co/0FmBM3lS64
