“Nepobaby,” the latest Norwegian drama from TV2, has recently announced the casting of Vivild Falk Berg, known for his role in “Pørni,” as the lead character. Berg will portray Emma, a 25-year-old working-class woman who uncovers a shocking truth about her lineage – she is actually the daughter of a wealthy Norwegian shipping tycoon.
Upon learning of her newfound heritage, Emma also discovers that she has been named as a beneficiary in her father’s will, inheriting a significant portion of the family business. However, the inheritance comes with a surprising twist – Emma has four siblings she never knew existed, each played by talented actors Nicolai Cleve Broch, Henriette Steenstrup, Kristin Grue, and Helle Ryg Eia.
The brainchild of actor and showrunner Henriette Steenstrup and Siri Seljeseth, “Nepobaby” delves into the complexities of wealth, privilege, family dynamics, and personal identity. Steenstrup shared, “Living with privilege can distort one’s perception of reality, and immense wealth can disrupt even the most grounded individual. ‘Nepobaby’ aims to deliver a bold, humorous, captivating, and heartfelt narrative exploring how money influences our relationships, family connections, and sense of self.”
This six-part series, produced by Eldorado Content Club and co-distributed by Oble and Nordisk Film Distribution, is scheduled to debut on TV2 in Norway and has already secured a pre-sale to RUV in Iceland. Nordisk will handle distribution in the Nordic regions, while Oble will manage distribution globally.
Katia Sol, co-founder of Oble, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “‘Nepobaby’ strikes a perfect balance between compelling drama and witty storytelling, centered around a relatable protagonist that prompts viewers to ponder how sudden wealth or inheritance might alter their fundamental values and identity.”
Jes Brandhøj, director of sales at Nordisk, praised the series for its unique exploration of social classes and family dynamics, offering a fresh perspective on the elite world through the eyes of a character from a different background. With a blend of humor and drama, “Nepobaby” promises to provide viewers with a thought-provoking examination of life’s complexities and the intricacies of familial relationships.
