Ryan Routh, the man accused of the second assassination attempt on Donald Trump, penned a peculiar letter from jail connecting himself to Thomas Crooks, another individual who tried to harm the president-elect. In the letter, Routh also expressed his disdain for the “two-party system.”
Currently detained in a federal facility in Miami awaiting trial for allegedly targeting Trump at his Florida golf course earlier this year, 58-year-old Routh sent the letter to Politico reporter Ankush Khardori.
In the four-page letter, Routh criticized the US two-party system and made it clear that he has no association with the Democratic Party, despite his strong disdain for Trump, whom he referred to as a “dictator.”
Routh also drew a connection between himself and Crooks, who managed to graze Trump’s ear during a campaign event in Pennsylvania before being killed by Secret Service agents.
Although Routh pleaded not guilty to his own alleged assassination attempt, he described himself and Crooks as individuals willing to “die for freedom and democracy.”
Prior to the election, Routh urged for limitations on presidential power if Trump were to win, emphasizing the need to transfer military authority from the President to Congress before January.
“We must curb all Presidential powers before Trump seizes control of our nation,” Routh added in his letter.
If Vice President Kamala Harris were to win, Routh urged Americans to rally around the Capitol to prevent a repeat of the events of January 6th, warning of the looming threat of “civil war.”
