While it is unreasonable to expect older politicians to be well-versed in current pop culture, Trump remains rooted in the 1980s. His rallies frequently feature “Y.M.C.A” by The Village People, a song released in 1980.
Trump’s involvement in the Georgia US Senate race, particularly his attacks on Sen. Jon Ossoff, was predictably unsuccessful.
Trump stated:
Your terrible senator, Jon Ossoff, he’s terrible. And the Democrats in Congress are voting with the communists every single time. They’re afraid of the communists. You look at it… Now, I was, uh, I fought Ossoff before, as you know, and we won. We had a great success against this guy. He reminds me of Pinky Herman. Did you ever see Pinky Herman?
The reference to “Pinky Herman” is puzzling. Could he have meant Pee-Wee Herman, a well-known character from the 1980s? If so, the reference is outdated, as the actor behind Pee-Wee, Paul Reubens, has passed away.
