A new sculpture called Windswept has been unveiled on Ohoka Rd near the Silverstream village. The sculpture, created by Raymond Herber, was commissioned by the Waimakariri Public Arts Trust (WPAT) and overseen by trustee Jackie Watson. Due to Raymond’s illness with long Covid-19, the project took longer than expected to complete, but he expressed gratitude to the WPAT trustees for their patience. Funding for the sculpture came from the proceeds of the first Kaiapoi Art Expo after the Covid-19 lockdown, with additional support from the Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi Community Board and All Together Kaiapoi.

A small function was held at Urban Revival in Silverstream to thank sponsors and supporters after the ribbon-cutting ceremony. WPAT chair Wilson Henderson stated that the trust was delighted with the installation of Raymond’s sculpture, as it enhances the environment in Silverstream. WPAT, formed by the Waimakariri District Council in 2020, focuses on promoting art and culture in the district, particularly through public art like sculptures and murals.
