Congressional Republicans rip Biden for about-face pardon of son Hunter: 'So corrupt'
SHARE

President Biden faced backlash from Congressional Republicans after pardoning his son Hunter for multiple criminal charges. The GOP criticized Biden for going back on his promise not to intervene in Hunter’s cases, with Senator Chuck Grassley expressing shock and Senator Tom Cotton highlighting the issue of Biden’s dishonesty. Despite previous claims that Hunter would not receive a pardon, Biden ultimately pardoned his son, citing unfair prosecution and political motivations.

The pardon covers offenses that Hunter may have committed between 2014 and 2024, including his involvement with Burisma Holdings and Chinese state-linked energy firms. House Republicans had previously scrutinized Hunter’s foreign business dealings and accused President Biden of potentially engaging in influence peddling. An impeachment inquiry into Biden’s actions was initiated but later dropped when he decided not to run for reelection.

The move to pardon Hunter raised questions among Republicans, with Rep. Jim Jordan questioning the timing of the pardon in relation to the previous impeachment inquiry. Rep. Jim Banks also criticized the specificity of the year covered by the pardon, linking it to Hunter’s involvement with Burisma in 2014. Overall, the pardon reignited concerns about the Biden family’s alleged corrupt activities and lack of accountability.
