Alisyn Camerota, a familiar face on CNN during the first Trump administration, announced her departure from the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed outlet on Sunday via social media. In an Instagram post, she shared the news of her last day on CNN and invited viewers to tune in for her sign off at 4:50 pm (ET).
Camerota joined CNN in 2014 after working at Fox News Channel. She spent over six years as a co-anchor on “New Day,” a morning program that aimed to compete with other mainstream morning news shows. Her exit comes amidst rumors of potential job cuts at CNN as the network focuses more on digital content under CEO Mark Thompson.
During her time at CNN, Camerota worked alongside Chris Cuomo, known for his aggressive interviewing style. She was praised for her ability to conduct tough interviews while also showing empathy when necessary. Camerota’s presence on “New Day” was characterized by holding newsmakers accountable and cutting through political talking points.
In addition to her on-air work, Camerota is also a published author, with two books to her name. Her debut novel, “Amanda Wakes Up,” was set in a TV newsroom, while her memoir, “Combat Love,” delved into her personal experiences.
In recent months, Camerota has been less visible on screen following the passing of her husband, Tim Lewis, in July. She took time off to care for him during his battle with pancreatic cancer. Since leaving “New Day” in 2021, Camerota has taken on various roles at CNN, including co-anchoring afternoon shows, anchoring prime time programs, and working on special reports.
As Camerota bids farewell to CNN, her departure marks the end of an era for the network. Her contributions to the network, both on and off-screen, have left a lasting impact on viewers and colleagues alike. We wish her the best in her future endeavors.
