The Sport Integrity Commission has announced an investigation into Yachting NZ following various cultural, athlete welfare, and conduct complaints. The commission, Te Kahu Raunui, has stated that there are concerns about integrity and has deemed it necessary to open an investigation in the public interest.

Rebecca Rolls, the chief executive of the agency, confirmed the initiation of the investigation in a statement to RNZ. The investigation, conducted under section 32 of the Integrity Sport and Recreation Act, marks a significant test for the new agency’s authority.

While Yachting NZ is aware of the investigation, they are currently unable to provide any comments. This development comes shortly after YNZ released the findings of its Project Arotake review, which highlighted cultural issues and discrepancies in values and behaviors within the organization.

Several complaints have been raised against YNZ, including concerns about leadership, cultural issues, and athlete welfare. The commission is urging individuals with relevant experiences to come forward and contribute to the investigation to ensure the protection of athletes and the improvement of the sport’s future.

Rolls has encouraged anyone with concerns or complaints to reach out to the commission through its confidential channels.
