Hari & Deepti, a talented husband and wife duo based in Mumbai, have been captivating audiences with their intricate paper dioramas for over a decade. Their artistry involves cut and layered paper scenes that are delicately placed inside frames and illuminated with soft LEDs. Known for their elaborate narratives, Hari & Deepti have recently shifted towards creating more minimalistic yet enchanting works.

Their latest exhibition, “Forgotten Places of Beings and Things,” is currently on display at Heron Arts in San Francisco. The collection features tiny figures navigating through lush woodlands and windswept dunes, creating worlds filled with magic and intrigue when backlit.

The artists explain, “What amazes us about the paper-cut light boxes is the dichotomy of these pieces in their lit and unlit states. The contrast is so stark that it has this mystical effect on the viewers.”

“Forgotten Places of Beings and Things” will be open for viewing until January 25. In addition to their exhibition, Hari & Deepti have also recently published an illustrated children’s book titled “The Seekers.” To stay updated on their collaborative practice, you can follow them on Instagram.
