Arizona Man Arrested for Spraying Bed Bug Killer on Groceries at Walmart

An Arizona social media influencer, Charles Smith, found himself in hot water after he filmed himself allegedly spraying bed bug killer on groceries inside a Walmart store in Mesa. The incident, which occurred on December 19, was captured in a now-deleted video where Smith can be seen spraying the toxic pesticide on various perishable items such as bananas, acorn squash, potatoes, lemons, green apples, and Roma tomatoes.

Smith, who goes by the username WolfieKahletti on TikTok, reportedly went to the store with the intention of filming pranks for his channel. The 27-year-old self-described “villain” has a substantial following of over 300,000 on the social media platform.

According to court documents, Smith admitted to police that he makes between $6,000 to $10,000 per month from filming his provocative prank videos. However, his actions at the Walmart store landed him in legal trouble as he now faces charges of introducing poison, criminal damage, endangerment, and theft.

After voluntarily turning himself in to the authorities on December 21, Smith now awaits the legal consequences of his actions. The Mesa Police Department issued a statement highlighting the potential dangers of reckless actions disguised as social media pranks.

The store employees at Walmart swiftly responded to the incident by removing the contaminated products and cleaning the affected areas of the store. It is not clear if any customers were harmed by consuming the tainted items.

Smith’s stunt with the bed bug killer spray serves as a grim reminder of the risks associated with tampering with consumer products. Convicted individuals face severe penalties, including up to 5 to 20 years in prison. In a similar case in 2022, an Arizona man received a 10-year probation sentence for adding harmful chemicals to food at retail stores in the Phoenix area.

In light of these incidents, it is crucial to exercise caution and responsibility when creating content for social media platforms. While pranks may garner attention and views, the potential consequences of such actions can have far-reaching implications for both the individuals involved and the public.
