Australian batsman Travis Head has been cleared to play in the fourth test against India, while captain Rohit Sharma may return to the opening position. The match is set to begin in Melbourne today, with temperatures expected to reach 39C at the MCG.

Head, who is the leading run-scorer in the series, suffered a quad strain in the previous game but has been declared fit to play by captain Pat Cummins. Cummins confirmed that Head will retain his place in the middle order as Australia aims for a 2-1 lead in the series.

Despite Head’s impressive performance so far, Cummins is uncertain about the team’s strategy for the match, especially considering the extreme heat in Melbourne. The captain praised the MCG wicket but mentioned that a final decision will be made after assessing the conditions on match day.

In terms of team changes, Australia has brought in teenage opener Sam Konstas for his debut, replacing Nathan McSweeney. Seamer Scott Boland has also been included in the squad in place of the injured Josh Hazlewood.

On the Indian side, Rohit Sharma, who missed the opening test, may return to the opening position alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. KL Rahul, who replaced Rohit in the previous tests, is likely to move to number three in the batting order. Additionally, India is considering bringing in a second spinner in place of pace-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy.

The series is currently tied at 1-1, with India having the opportunity to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy if they secure a victory in Melbourne.
