The University of New Mexico’s Department of Art provides a dynamic and interdisciplinary space where creativity and intellectual exchange flourish. Students have the opportunity to engage with a community of artists, historians, and educators who are committed to pushing boundaries and forging meaningful connections across various disciplines.

MFA in Art Studio:
The MFA in Art Studio program at UNM spans over three years and offers specializations in Art & Ecology, Ceramics, Experimental Art & Technology, Painting & Drawing, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture. Students have the chance to delve deep into their chosen medium and explore innovative approaches to artistic expression.

MA/PhD in Art History:
For those interested in delving into the rich tapestry of art and visual culture, the MA/PhD in Art History program at UNM offers a comprehensive study of humanity’s intellectual and cultural history. With specializations ranging from medieval to contemporary art, students can focus on Arts of the Americas and diverse cultural contexts.

MA in Art Education:
The MA in Art Education program at UNM is a hands-on experience that combines theory with practice, emphasizing artmaking as a form of inquiry and innovative pedagogical methods. Graduates are prepared to teach and collaborate with learners of all ages in a variety of art education settings.

UNM’s faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized leaders in their fields. They mentor students in a collaborative and inclusive environment that nurtures creativity and critical thinking. Applications for MFA programs are due by January 15, 2025, with rolling admissions for the Art Education program.
