At least 28 individuals have lost their lives following a tragic incident at Muan International Airport in South Korea.

The fatal crash occurred when a Jeju Air plane, carrying 175 passengers and six crew members on a flight from Thailand, veered off the runway during its landing, according to Yonhap news agency.

Despite the devastating crash, two survivors have been found as rescue operations are currently ongoing, as reported by Yonhap.

Authorities are focusing on rescuing individuals trapped in the tail section of the aircraft, as per a statement from an airport official to Reuters.

Distressing images captured by local media depict the engulfment of the plane in smoke and flames.

Acting President Choi Sung-mok, recently appointed as the interim leader of the nation amidst a political crisis, has instructed for full-scale rescue efforts to be carried out, as communicated by his office.

A spokesperson from Jeju Air has mentioned that the airline is in the process of verifying the emerging reports.
