The incident occurred around 8.40pm on Saturday when several police officers were responding to a single-car crash. The driver of the first vehicle involved in the initial crash was speaking to an officer inside a patrol car when a second vehicle suddenly veered across the road and collided with the patrol car. As a result, both the police officer and the initial driver sustained minor injuries. Another police officer was also injured while attempting to avoid the oncoming vehicle, while the driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries as well.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash and considering potential charges. It is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the collision. Despite the chaotic situation, all officers were wearing high-visibility gear, and the police vehicles had their flashing lights on at the time of the incident.
Fortunately, all four individuals who were hospitalized have since been discharged. Superintendent Srhoj expressed gratitude that the injuries were not more severe, emphasizing that the officers involved will receive the necessary support as they recover at home.
This incident comes shortly after a tragic event on New Year’s Day, where a police officer lost their life and another was seriously injured in a similar car crash in Nelson.
