“Shogun” Season 2 in the Works After Awards Success

“Shogun” is gearing up for a new season following its impressive awards sweep at the 2025 Golden Globes. The drama series took home multiple awards, including best drama series and acting wins for its talented cast.

Executive producer and creator Rachel Kondo shared, “We’re still in the process of figuring out where the series goes next. We’re about six weeks away from wrapping up the writers’ room.” Collaborating with her husband and fellow executive producer Justin Marks, they are determined to continue the success of “Shogun.”

Marks recently inked a new TV deal with FX Productions, paving the way for potential new seasons of “Shogun” in partnership with Clavell’s estate. The show’s success at the Golden Globes has only fueled anticipation for what’s to come in future episodes.

At the Golden Globes, “Shogun” dominated the drama categories, with wins for best drama series, best actor Hiroyuki Sanada, best actress Anna Sawai, and best supporting actor Tadanobu Asano. This continued recognition only solidifies the show’s status as a standout in the television landscape.

Following its record-breaking 18 Emmy Award wins, “Shogun” has proven itself to be more than just a limited series. FX is considering expanding it into a regular series, with Sanada set to reprise his role as Lord Yoshii Toranaga. The decision to move the show into the drama categories for the Emmy race further demonstrates its potential for longevity.

Fans can look forward to the development of two new seasons of “Shogun,” as a writers’ room was established to craft the next chapters of the Japan-set historical epic. While FX has yet to officially renew the show, the buzz surrounding its success indicates a promising future for “Shogun.”
