Pennsylvania Mother Arrested for Handcuffing Son to Oil Tank
A Pennsylvania mother, Chazzity Candelario, 33, was arrested on child endangerment-related charges after allegedly handcuffing her 11-year-old son to an oil tank in the basement while she was at work, according to prosecutors.
Candelario admitted to police that she would restrain her son for up to two hours or lock him in a small utility closet inside their Lebanon home due to difficulties controlling her children while she was working.
Lebanon County District Attorney Pier Hess Graf condemned the actions, stating that the treatment of the child constituted abuse rather than discipline.
The Lebanon County Regional Police Department responded to the incident after receiving a report that a child was restrained to a bed in the family home.
Upon arrival, police found the boy handcuffed to a bunk bed and revealed that his mother would also handcuff his leg to a fuel tank in the basement for hours.
Candelario was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, false imprisonment, and unlawful restraint. She is currently held at Lebanon County Prison on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23.
