A Nebraska high school teacher is facing serious legal consequences after engaging in a sexual relationship with a former student. Cody Pester, a 26-year-old sixth-grade teacher and wrestling coach, found himself in hot water when he began sending flirty texts to an 18-year-old girl on the day of her graduation in May. The relationship quickly turned sexual just two months later, in July, with the pair exchanging over 13,000 often-romantic texts and engaging in sexual activities multiple times during that month alone.

Despite the fact that the former student was of legal age of consent in Nebraska, which is 16, and no longer attending Palmyra High School where Pester taught, the teacher violated a state law that prohibits school employees from having sexual relationships with students for 90 days after their graduation. This law led to Pester being charged with sexual abuse and facing a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

The scandal came to light in December when authorities received a tip about the inappropriate relationship. The former student, who remains unidentified, revealed that she knew Pester from her time as an athlete at the high school where he also served as a wrestling coach. Following the revelation, Pester was removed from the classroom and prohibited from participating in any after-school activities. The school also offered counseling services to students affected by the situation.

Pester’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 9, where he will have to face the consequences of his actions. Despite not having a criminal record prior to this incident, the teacher now finds himself in a precarious legal situation that could have lasting implications on his career and personal life. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries in teacher-student relationships and the severe consequences that can arise from crossing those lines.
