The Villainous Sinestro Joins HBO’s “Lanterns” Series

The highly anticipated HBO series “Lanterns” has made a major casting announcement, adding Ulrich Thomsen to the lineup. Thomsen will be taking on the role of the infamous DC villain Sinestro in the upcoming show, which has already generated buzz with its star-studded cast.

Variety has confirmed Thomsen’s involvement in the series, where he will star alongside leads Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, as well as other talented cast members including Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, and Poorna Jagannathan.

The show’s official logline sets the stage for an intriguing storyline, following new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) as they delve into a dark mystery on Earth while investigating a murder in the heartland of America.

Sinestro is a well-known character in the Green Lantern universe, having originally debuted in 1961. A former member of the Green Lantern Corps, Sinestro was banished for abusing his power, setting the stage for his transformation into a formidable villain. His manipulative and charismatic nature adds depth to his enduring obsession with Hal Jordan, his former mentee.

Thomsen’s casting brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a diverse career that includes appearances in Danish and American productions. Fans may recognize him from series like “Banshee” and “The Blacklist,” as well as films such as “The World Is Not Enough” and “The International.”

Produced by HBO in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, “Lanterns” was greenlit for eight episodes and boasts a talented team of writers and producers. Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King are among the creative minds behind the series, with James Hawes directing the first two episodes.
