Finn Wolfhard, best known for his role in Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” made an appearance at the Variety Studio presented by Audible at Sundance to promote his new movie, A24’s “The Legend of Ochi.” This marks his first press tour since wrapping filming on the popular TV series, which he has been a part of for the past decade. The actor expressed mixed emotions about leaving the “Stranger Things” set, describing it as a significant chapter of his life coming to an end.

“It was incredibly emotional,” Wolfhard shared. “It’s the last 10 years of my life. My whole childhood was there. It was sort of the ‘Toy Story 3’ moment of leaving your toys behind. It was really special.”

He also reflected on the unique experience of filming the final season of “Stranger Things,” which took almost a year to complete. Wolfhard likened the production to the epic scale of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, emphasizing the intensity and dedication that went into wrapping up the series.

Now, Wolfhard is excited to embark on a new chapter with “The Legend of Ochi,” a film directed by Isaiah Saxon. The movie follows the story of a young farm girl named Yuri who sets out on a quest to return a wounded baby ochi to its home. The cast includes talented actors such as Helena Zengel, Emily Watson, and Willem Dafoe.

One of the unique aspects of “The Legend of Ochi” is the use of puppetry, animatronics, matte paintings, and 3D animation to bring the fantastical creatures to life. Wolfhard appreciated the opportunity to interact with practical effects on set, noting how it enhanced the authenticity of the scenes.

“It makes our jobs easier,” he explained. “Working with practical effects is better. There’s something to be said about amazing craftsmanship, and being able to feel that in a scene really helps.”

Unfortunately, the release date for “The Legend of Ochi” was postponed due to director Isaiah Saxon losing his home in the Los Angeles wildfires. The film is now set to hit theaters on April 25, giving audiences a chance to experience this imaginative and visually stunning adventure.
