Mexico Retaliates with Tariffs After US Imposes 25% Tariff
Mexico swiftly responded to President Trump’s decision to impose a 25% tariff on the country by ordering retaliatory tariffs on the US.
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo condemned Trump’s actions, particularly his accusations of the Mexican government having ties to criminal organizations and cartels.
“If the United States government truly wanted to address the fentanyl crisis in their country, they should focus on combating the illegal narcotics trade and money laundering within their own cities,” Sheinbaum Pardo stated.
Additionally, Trump announced a 25% tariff on Canadian imports and a 10% tariff on Chinese products. The US will also be imposing 10% tariffs on energy products from Canada.
Sheinbaum revealed that she has instructed her economy minister to implement “Plan B,” which involves both tariff and non-tariff measures, although the specifics of these measures remain unclear.
