The Senate has confirmed Pam Bondi as the new U.S. Attorney General in a vote that ended 54-46 on Tuesday.

Bondi’s confirmation faced opposition from Democrats who expressed concerns about her close ties to former President Trump. Bondi, a former corporate lobbyist and two-time attorney general of Florida, served as one of Trump’s defense lawyers during his first impeachment trial.

“Pam is a fighter who will end the two-tiered justice system and restore the rule of law,” said U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a strong supporter of Trump. “There’s a lot of work ahead, but I’m thankful the Senate confirmed Pam to get it done.”

During her confirmation hearing, Bondi emphasized her commitment to ending the weaponization of the Department of Justice, particularly against people of faith targeted by the FBI under the Biden administration.

Bondi outlined her priorities as U.S. Attorney General, which include upholding fundamental rights, enforcing antitrust laws, addressing drug cartels as terrorist organizations, holding opioid manufacturers accountable, combating human trafficking, assisting in border security, and reviewing possible pardons for Jan. 6 riot defendants on a case-by-case basis.

“My overriding objective will be to return the Department of Justice to its core mission of keeping Americans safe and vigorously prosecuting criminals,” Bondi pledged.
