A horrific crime took place at a motel in Venice, Florida, where a housekeeping manager, Tina Stradler, was brutally beaten and strangled to death by a man named Stephen Havrilka. This tragic incident occurred in April 2021, leaving Stradler’s family devastated and shocked.

Havrilka, a 34-year-old man with a history of violence and criminal behavior, had been staying at the Rodeway Inn for nearly a week before he attacked Stradler in a room she was cleaning. The vicious assault led to Stradler being found unconscious and severely injured in a closet by her husband, Gerald Strader, who had been waiting for her text as per their safety protocol.

Gerald Strader’s worst fears were realized when he discovered his wife’s battered body in the motel room. He immediately called for help, and despite efforts to save her, Stradler was pronounced dead at a local hospital later that day. The couple, who had four children and two grandchildren, had a close bond, and Gerald’s heartbreaking discovery left him shattered.

The surveillance footage from the motel captured Havrilka entering and leaving Stradler’s room around the time of the attack. He was apprehended by authorities shortly after the incident, carrying a white towel and his shoes. The motive behind the brutal attack remains unclear, but Havrilka’s violent past and criminal record paint a disturbing picture of his character.

Havrilka pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison for his heinous crime. Additionally, he received another life sentence for a separate incident in the Sarasota County Jail in 2024, further highlighting his violent tendencies and disregard for human life.

Stradler’s family expressed their profound loss and grief in a letter read by the Assistant State Attorney during the court proceedings. They described the irreplaceable void left by Stradler’s untimely death and the impact it had on their lives. The senseless act of violence robbed them of a beloved family member and shattered their sense of security.

The tragic story of Tina Stradler’s murder serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in seemingly ordinary places. It is a chilling tale of a life cut short by senseless violence, leaving a community in shock and mourning. May justice be served for Tina Stradler and may her memory be honored as a victim of a brutal crime that should never have happened.
