Tony Roberts, known for his roles in several Woody Allen films, has passed away.
The veteran actor succumbed to complications from lung cancer on Friday, as confirmed by his daughter, Nicole Burley, to the New York Times.
Tony’s most notable role was in “Annie Hall,” where he portrayed Woody Allen’s best friend. The film went on to win several Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
Amongst other Woody Allen productions, Tony appeared in films such as “A Midsummer Night’s Sex Comedy,” “Stardust Memories,” “Hannah and Her Sisters,” and “Radio Days.”
Aside from his film work, Tony enjoyed a successful career on Broadway, earning two Tony nominations. One nomination was for Best Actor in a Musical in 1968 for “How Now, Dow Jones,” and the other was for Featured Actor in a Play in Woody Allen’s 1986 production of “Play It Again, Sam.”
Tony’s introduction to Woody Allen’s theater productions began in 1966 with a role in “Don’t Drink The Water.” His venture into movies started with the 1971 Disney comedy “The Million Dollar Duck.”
More recently, Tony appeared in the 2017 made-for-TV adaptation of “Dirty Dancing” and featured in a 2010 episode of “Law & Order.”
Tony Roberts was 85 years old at the time of his passing.
