President Trump declares February 9, 2025 as Gulf of America Day
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
Today marks a historic moment as President Donald J. Trump officially recognizes February 9, 2025, as the inaugural Gulf of America Day.
On January 20, 2025, President Trump signed Executive Order 14172, titled “Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness.” This order mandated the renaming of the U.S. Continental Shelf area previously known as the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. The area is bounded by the states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida, extending to the seaward boundary with Mexico and Cuba.
The decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico was made to honor its historical significance and its role as a vital asset to the United States. President Trump’s administration aims to restore American pride in the nation’s heritage and celebrate its greatness.
President Trump is set to make his first official visit to the Gulf of America following its renaming. This visit signifies a symbolic moment in American history and underscores the importance of commemorating the renaming of this significant geographical region.
As a result, President Trump has declared February 9, 2025, as Gulf of America Day. He calls upon public officials and all Americans to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities to honor the Gulf of America’s legacy.
On this day, let us come together as a nation to celebrate our history and the renaming of the Gulf of America. May this proclamation serve as a reminder of the enduring greatness of the United States of America.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, President Trump has set this proclamation on the ninth day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
