Travis Kelce may not have walked away with another championship ring on Sunday, but he did manage to achieve a significant milestone in his career. In the Kansas City Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kelce surpassed Jerry Rice for the most career Super Bowl receptions.
At 35 years old, Kelce now holds the record for the most receptions in Super Bowl history with a total of 35 catches in five Super Bowl appearances, surpassing Rice’s mark of 33 receptions in four Super Bowls. This achievement comes just one year after Kelce broke Rice’s career postseason receptions record.
During Sunday’s game, Kelce struggled in the first half as the Chiefs fell behind early. However, he managed to salvage his stat line in the second half, ultimately breaking Rice’s record with two late third-quarter catches and a 9-yard reception in the fourth quarter.
While Rice still holds several Super Bowl records, including single-game receiving yards, career receiving touchdowns, and career receiving yards, Kelce continues to make his mark. With his 39-yard performance on Sunday, Kelce moved into second place on the career receiving yards list, surpassing Lynn Swann and Rob Gronkowski with a total of 389 yards.
Kelce’s impressive feat adds to his legacy as one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history. As he continues to make history on the field, fans can expect to see more record-breaking performances from this legendary player.
