In December, President Trump had already expressed his intention to appoint former GOP Congressman Devin Nunes as the chairman of the Intelligence Advisory Board. Nunes, known for his role in exposing the FISAgate scandal, played a crucial part in uncovering the FBI’s plot to frame Trump in 2016. His release of a 4-page FISA memo in 2018 revealed misconduct by top FBI and DOJ officials, including James Comey, Sally Yates, Rod Rosenstein, and Andrew McCabe.
One key point highlighted in Nunes’ FISA memo was the FBI’s reliance on the Steele dossier for obtaining FISA warrants. Andrew McCabe, during his testimony, confirmed that the dossier played a crucial role in the FISA application process. Additionally, Nunes sent multiple criminal referrals to the Justice Department related to leaks of classified information and false statements made to Congress and the FISA court.
The appointment of Devin Nunes as the chairman of Trump’s Intelligence Advisory Board signifies a continued focus on transparency and accountability within the intelligence community.
