Black Caps: Ferguson ruled out, Jamieson called up

The New Zealand cricket team, known as the Black Caps, faced a setback just before the Champions Trophy as fast bowler Lockie Ferguson was ruled out of the tournament due to a foot injury.

Ferguson experienced discomfort in his right foot during a warm-up match against Afghanistan and was deemed unfit to participate in the entire tournament after an initial medical evaluation. With the event fast approaching and being of short duration, the decision was made to send Ferguson back home for rehabilitation.

To fill the void left by Ferguson, Canterbury Kings’ pace bowler Kyle Jamieson was chosen to join the squad and will be heading to Pakistan. Jamieson recently returned to domestic cricket after recovering from a back injury and impressed with his performance in the Super Smash tournament.

Head coach Gary Stead expressed disappointment over Ferguson’s absence but highlighted Jamieson’s strengths as a suitable replacement. He praised Jamieson’s pace, bounce, and energy, stating that his recent form and successful spells in matches make him a valuable asset for the team.
