This Subway Miracle Had a Grate Ending

A heartwarming story unfolded in the Bronx when a woman’s sentimental ring accidentally slipped into a subway grate, only to be rescued by the kindness of MTA employees.

Mayra Lora, a 70-year-old woman, had worn her 18-carat gold ring with her children’s names engraved on it for 25 years. Unfortunately, the ring fell into the grate at Lexington Avenue near 103rd Street in East Harlem while she was removing her glove.

Lora and her boyfriend tried to retrieve the ring but were unsuccessful, so they sought help from the MTA. Within an hour, New York City Transit maintenance workers arrived to assist, cordoning off the area and removing the grate to access the ring.

MTA employee Latasha Goodall joyfully picked up the ring and reunited it with Lora, who was visibly emotional and grateful for its return. Goodall remarked, “I’m so happy we were able to reunite [Mayra] with her most precious jewel.”

NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow commended the employees for their dedication to going above and beyond for New Yorkers, highlighting the behind-the-scenes heroes who keep the city running smoothly.

This heartwarming reunion captured on video showcases the kindness and dedication of MTA employees in ensuring that a precious piece of jewelry found its way back to its rightful owner.
