Irv Gotti, the renowned music producer, tragically passed away at the age of 54 after suffering a massive hemorrhagic stroke. His brother, Chris Lorenzo, shared details of his brother’s final days on the 2Way podcast, revealing that Gotti had been diagnosed with diabetes in his late 40s but had avoided regular doctor visits, leading to a delayed diagnosis. Despite being informed of his condition, Gotti was in denial and continued to live his life without making significant changes to manage his diabetes.
Lorenzo spoke candidly about watching his brother suffer in the last few years of his life due to his deteriorating health. Gotti, who had also suffered a stroke a year prior, ultimately passed away on his own terms after consuming a meal of Chinese food and playing poker, which triggered the fatal stroke.
In a heartfelt tribute following Gotti’s death, Chris praised his brother’s contributions to the hip-hop industry, highlighting his role in shaping the music landscape and providing a platform for artists who were previously unheard. Under Gotti’s leadership, Murder Inc. produced several chart-topping hits and earned accolades, including a Grammy award for producing Ashanti’s “Rock Wit U (Awww Baby).”
Despite his success in the music industry, Gotti faced challenges and legal issues throughout his career. In 2005, he and his brother were indicted on money laundering charges in connection with notorious drug lord Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff. The brothers were accused of laundering money through their label, Murder Inc., but were later acquitted of all charges.
Months before his death, Gotti also faced allegations of sexual assault and abuse from an unidentified woman in Miami, Florida. The woman, known as Jane Doe, claimed that Gotti had subjected her to ongoing abuse over a two-year period.
Gotti’s legacy as a pioneering figure in the music industry remains unparalleled, and his impact on hip-hop culture will be remembered for years to come. His untimely passing serves as a reminder of the importance of managing health conditions and prioritizing self-care to avoid life-threatening complications.
