Reskate, an artistic duo consisting of Javier de Riba and María López, is known for their extensive murals that cover large spaces on buildings, stage backdrops, and even transformer towers. These monumental public works are not only striking during the day but also completely transform with the darkness of night.

Based primarily in Barcelona, Reskate travels around the world to complete projects that aim to raise awareness of care for culture, nature, and peace. Their art often features children depicted in a bold, illustrative style with graphic linework. The young figures hold objects related to the area where the mural is placed, as well as items that reflect global concerns. Reskate’s work aims to challenge the invisibilization and invalidation of youth as active members of society.

One of their projects, “Bruit,” serves as stage design for an immersive concert. In this piece, a young girl is shown protectively holding a fishbowl, symbolizing the impact of sound pollution on oceans. Reskate’s murals not only beautify public spaces but also convey powerful messages about social and environmental issues.

Recently, Reskate completed an exhibit at the Museu Picasso in Barcelona and continues to engage in artistic endeavors both in public spaces and other venues. Their work can be explored on their website and Instagram, and prints are available for purchase in their online shop.

The glow-in-the-dark murals created by Reskate, such as “Harmony” in Liverpool and “Transformateur” in France, showcase the duo’s unique style and ability to convey meaningful narratives through art. By using light and dark as elements in their work, Reskate’s murals come to life in a whole new way when the sun sets.
