Chicago police officers have swiftly taken action in response to a double-shooting incident that occurred in Rogers Park on Sunday night. The shooting, which was captured on video, has resulted in murder charges being filed against Cleophus Rufus, a 33-year-old individual. Rufus faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated battery by discharging a firearm.

According to a statement released by the Chicago Police Department (CPD), officers discovered a 31-year-old man who had succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head and neck. Another 31-year-old victim was found in a nearby alley with gunshot wounds to the chest and both legs. The video footage of the shooting, recorded from across the street, provides a distant view of the tragic incident.

Investigators at the scene recovered a firearm and a plastic bag containing stacks of cash. Rufus was apprehended by officers shortly after the shooting on the same block where the crime took place. Specific details regarding the sequence of events on that fateful Sunday are expected to be disclosed during Rufus’ court hearing.

While the deceased victim remains unnamed at this time, court records indicate that the surviving victim has previous convictions for robbery as an adult, with the most recent conviction resulting in a 10-year sentence in 2017.
