Gabby Thomas had a stellar 2024, clinching three Olympic gold medals. As she prepares for the upcoming season, the American sprinter made an unexpected announcement regarding the venues of Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track.

Michael Johnson, a legendary sprinter, introduced GST, a groundbreaking track league, last year. The league is set to feature four meets, with the first competition scheduled to take place in Kingston, Jamaica, followed by events in Los Angeles, Miami, and Philadelphia.

Having signed with Grand Slam Track towards the end of last year, Gabby Thomas recently shared her excitement for the league’s locations. In an Instagram video, she expressed her eagerness to compete in Jamaica, a place she has never raced before.

“I’m most excited for Kingston. I’m really excited. I’ve never competed in Jamaica before,” Thomas stated in the video. She then proceeded to rank the remaining three locations, placing Miami in second position due to her love for the city, followed by Philadelphia, where she has fond memories of competing at Franklin Field during her college days. Lastly, she mentioned Los Angeles as a cool location.

Thomas officially joined Grand Slam Track in November 2024, expressing her enthusiasm for the league in a press release. She highlighted her eagerness to challenge herself against the top sprinters in the world.

“I am so excited to be joining Grand Slam Track, and partnering with Michael Johnson to give our sport the platform it deserves. Coming off of the Olympics, I want to continue testing myself and competing at the highest level against the fastest women in the world. Grand Slam Track allows us that chance in 2025,” Thomas stated.

She commended Johnson’s vision for the league and eagerly anticipated the opportunity to showcase their talents to track fans worldwide. The GST event will likely feature Thomas in the short sprints category, including the 100m and 200m races. Alongside Thomas, other notable athletes like Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Fred Kerley, Kenny Bednarek, and Cole Hocker have also signed with Grand Slam Track.

The first meet of Grand Slam Track is scheduled to kick off between April 4-6 at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. Fans can catch the action live on Peacock or watch the broadcast on The CW.

With her sights set on further success in the upcoming season, Gabby Thomas is poised to make a significant impact in the realm of track and field. As she gears up to compete in Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track, Thomas remains focused on pushing her limits and showcasing her speed on the track.
