New MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler Makes Major Changes at Network

After taking over as the new president of MSNBC, Rebecca Kutler wasted no time in shaking things up at the ratings-starved network. Several longtime employees were axed, including popular anchor Rachel Maddow.

Maddow, 51, will be stepping down from her five-night-a-week anchor duties and returning to her $25 million-a-year, Mondays-only routine. This move comes as part of a major lineup overhaul announced by Kutler, which also included the ousting of Joy Reid and the cancellation of The ReidOut. In Reid’s former 7 pm timeslot, rotating anchors will temporarily take over.

However, Maddow was not pleased with the changes and took to the airwaves to express her disappointment. On her show, she criticized the network’s decision and spoke out in support of Reid, calling her termination “very, very, very hard to take.”

Maddow shared with her audience, “In all of the jobs I have had in all of the years I have been alive, there is no colleague for whom I have had more affection and more respect than Joy Reid. I love everything about her and have learned so much from her. I do not want to lose her as a colleague here at MSNBC, and personally, I think it is a bad mistake to let her walk out the door.”

It remains to be seen how these changes will impact the network’s viewership and overall direction moving forward. Stay tuned for more updates on the evolving landscape at MSNBC.
