The President and First Lady’s Reflection on Ash Wednesday, 2025

This Ash Wednesday, we stand in solidarity with the millions of American Catholics and other Christians as we embark on the solemn journey of Lent—a period of spiritual reflection leading up to the commemoration of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

During the 40 days of Lent, Christians engage in prayer, fasting, and acts of charity to deepen their faith and reaffirm their commitment to the teachings of the Gospel. Today, believers across the nation bear the sign of the cross in ash on their foreheads, a poignant symbol of our mortality and our constant need for the grace and forgiveness of Christ.

As we meditate on the sacrifice and redemption brought forth by Jesus Christ’s crucifixion this Lenten season, let us ready our hearts for the joyous celebration of the Easter resurrection.

We extend our heartfelt wishes for a meaningful and spiritually fulfilling Lent. May the blessings of the Almighty be upon you, and may He continue to watch over and guide the United States of America.
