Netflix’s Espionage Dramedy “The Recruit” Canceled After Two Seasons

Netflix‘s espionage dramedy “The Recruit” has come to an end after two seasons on the streaming platform, as confirmed by Variety. The news was announced by Colton Dunn, who portrayed former CIA operative Lester Kitchens on the show, in a post on Threads.

Dunn shared, “‘The Recruit’ has been cancelled, y’all. Such a bummer. I’ll share some pics and fun memories on IG but just wanted you to hear it from me. Thanks if you watched. I’m AVAILABLE NOW! Hire me for your tv story!!”

“The Recruit” aired a total of 14 episodes over two seasons, premiering in December of 2022. The series followed the story of Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo), a CIA lawyer who becomes entangled in international conflicts with dangerous adversaries after an asset attempts to expose her connection to the agency.

The cast of “The Recruit” also included Aarti Mann, Fivel Stewart, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Kaylah Zander, Kristian Bruun, Angel Parker, and Jesse Collin. The show was created by Alexi Hawley, who served as showrunner and executive producer. Production was handled by Hypnotic and Lionsgate for Netflix, with executive producers such as Centineo, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, David Bartis, Adam Ciralsky, Charlie Ebersol, and Julian Holmes. Directors for the second season included Hawley, Holmes, Jessica Yu, Viet Nguyen, and John Hyams.

According to Variety, “The Recruit” Season 2 debuted with 5.9 million views in its first four days on Netflix. The show was recognized as one of Variety’s most anticipated shows of 2025, landing in second place on the English-language TV chart, with “The Night Agent” Season 2 taking the top spot with 15.2 million views.
