CBS Cancels “S.W.A.T.” After Eight Seasons

CBS has decided to cancel the long-running action drama “S.W.A.T.” after eight seasons and 163 episodes. This news came as a surprise to the show’s producers and stars who were informed on Thursday. However, this isn’t the first time that “S.W.A.T.” has faced cancellation by CBS, so there may still be hope for its return in the future.

The series, starring Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, was initially brought back for an eighth season after CBS had previously announced that the seventh season would be its last. Prior to that, CBS had also axed the show in 2023 after the sixth season, only to later revive it for one final season.

Despite previous revivals, it seems that this time “S.W.A.T.” may truly be coming to an end. The show, which airs on Fridays at 8 p.m., was given a full 22-episode order for its final season, with 13 episodes already aired and nine remaining.

Showrunner and executive producer Andrew Dettman expressed his sadness over the news, praising the cast and crew for their hard work and dedication over the past eight seasons. The show has featured a talented ensemble including Jay Harrington, David Lim, Patrick St. Esprit, Anna Enger Ritch, and Niko Pepaj.

“S.W.A.T.” is a production of Sony Pictures Television in association with CBS Studios, with executive producers Shawn Ryan, Justin Lin, Neal H. Moritz, and others. The series is based on the original show created by Robert Hamner that aired in the 1970s.

As CBS bids farewell to “S.W.A.T.,” they have also canceled two other dramas, “FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International.” However, the network has renewed several series and ordered new spinoffs for the upcoming season.
