Paris:
French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou stood firm on Thursday, stating that European Union countries will not back down in the face of US President Donald Trump’s threats to impose high tariffs on wine and champagne imports.
Addressing a trade forum, Bayrou emphasized the importance for Europeans to demonstrate resilience against such threats, stating, “It is important for us Europeans to show who we are and that we will not yield to these kinds of threats.”
Trump’s recent threat to impose 200-percent tariffs on wine, champagne, and other alcoholic beverages from EU countries comes in response to the bloc’s planned levies on American-made whiskey, escalating the ongoing trade conflict between the two sides.
