Underknown, a Toronto-based media company, is set to launch a new FAST streaming channel based on the long-running magazine Popular Science. The channel will be available on various platforms such as FUBO, Plex, Sling Freestream, Vizio, Local Now, and other FAST platforms.

The Popular Science channel will feature live coverage of rocket launches and serve as a hub for NASA Spaceflight’s series “This Week in Spaceflight” and “Starbase Update.” In addition, the channel will showcase content from popular science YouTube creators such as Hacksmith, Complexly, and Underknown’s own creations like “What If,” “How to Survive,” “Animalogic,” and “Aperture.”

Steve Hulford, CEO and co-founder of Underknown, expressed excitement about bringing the reputable Popular Science magazine to television screens. He highlighted the channel’s integration of top science brands from YouTube, TV, and film, creating a space where storytelling meets discovery. With partnerships with NASA Spaceflight, Hacksmith, and Complexly, Popular Science aims to be a go-to destination for science and technology enthusiasts.

Popular Science, originally a science publication dating back to 1872, has always strived to make science accessible to everyone. Annie Colbert, editor in chief of Popular Science, emphasized the opportunity to engage with audiences in a new way through the collaboration with Underknown. By combining Underknown’s digital TV expertise with Popular Science’s legacy, viewers can stay informed about the incredible science happening around them daily.

Recurrent Ventures Inc. owns the Popular Science trademark and is licensing the brand for the new network. The launch and management of the Popular Science channel on various platforms, as well as the backend tech, are being handled by acTVe, a FAST channel management company.
