FX has just given the green light to a pilot for the highly anticipated “Snowfall” spinoff, marking a major step forward for the potential series. The exclusive news was reported by Variety, revealing exciting details about what fans can expect from the new show.
The untitled drama, which was first announced to be in development in 2023 before the series finale of “Snowfall,” will see the return of familiar faces. Gail Bean, who portrayed Wanda Bell-Simmons in the original series, will reprise her role in the spinoff. Joining her will be Isaiah John, known for his portrayal of Leon Simmons.
The pilot’s official logline sets the stage for the upcoming series, stating, “Set in 90s Los Angeles soon after the end of the original series, a recovering addict (Bean) strives to take West Coast rap mainstream despite potential infighting from a harrowing gang war.”
Renowned writer Malcolm Spellman will take the helm as the writer and executive producer of the pilot. He will be joined by “Snowfall” alumni Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson, who will all serve as executive producers. FX Productions will be the studio behind the production.
In addition to Bean and John, the original “Snowfall” cast included talented actors such as Damson Idris, Carter Hudson, Emily Rios, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Michael Hyatt, Amin Joseph, Angela Lewis, and Alon Aboutboul.
“Snowfall,” created by the late John Singleton, alongside Eric Amadio and Andron, delved into the crack cocaine epidemic in South Central LA through the eyes of various characters. From budding drug kingpin Franklin Saint to CIA operative Teddy McDonald and cartel enforcer Gustavo “El Oso” Zapata, the show captivated audiences for six seasons on FX from 2017 to 2023.
With the pilot now in the works, fans can look forward to diving back into the gritty world of “Snowfall” and exploring new storylines and characters in the upcoming spinoff. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project.
