Roku Acquires Exclusive Rights to “Just a Bit Outside” Documentary

Roku has announced that it has acquired the exclusive distribution rights to “Just a Bit Outside,” a feature documentary that delves into the memorable 1982 season of the Milwaukee Brewers. The documentary will be available for streaming on The Roku Channel from April 11 to June 30, giving viewers a chance to relive the excitement of this iconic baseball season.

David Eilenberg, Head of Content at Roku Media, expressed his excitement about bringing this compelling sports documentary to fans. He stated, “The Brewers have a rich history filled with incredible stories, and we’re honored to bring fans an in-depth look at one of the most memorable seasons in baseball. We’re excited to partner with Sean Hanish, Kelly Kahl, and the Cannonball team to deliver more premium sports content to our programming lineup.”

“Just a Bit Outside” chronicles the 1982 Brewers season, highlighting the unique bond and camaraderie among the players that almost led them to a championship victory. The documentary explores the love affair between the blue-collar city of Milwaukee and the blue-collar team, showcasing a story that continues to resonate over 40 years later.

Producer Kelly Kahl, former head of CBS Entertainment, expressed his delight in collaborating with Roku on this project. He praised Roku for their extensive reach and passion for sports programming, emphasizing their ability to connect with and engage sports fans.

The documentary recently won the title of best sports film at the Louisville International Film Festival and features interviews with key figures from the 1982 Brewers team, including Bud Selig, Robin Yount, and Rollie Fingers, among others.

Director and producer Sean Hanish expressed his gratitude towards Roku for supporting independent filmmaking and innovative storytelling. He credited Roku for making “Just a Bit Outside” accessible to baseball fans on The Roku Channel, especially as the premiere aligns with the excitement of the upcoming baseball season.

“Just a Bit Outside” is a passion project for Hanish, who serves as the director and producer of the documentary. With contributions from executive producer Derek Beamer and producers Kelly Kahl and Paul Jaconi-Biery of Cannonball Productions, the film promises to offer a captivating glimpse into the historic 1982 Brewers season. Additionally, former player Gorman Thomas, who played a key role in the team’s success, joins the project as an associate producer.
